The Millionaire on a Bicycle

I have read "The Millionaire Next Door", a book about ordinary people with million plus net worth amounts. I think in the African perspective, that title and the title of this blog article can merge. Yes, we have millionaires using bicycles for their daily commute. They are keeping shape and they are saving money.

The daily commute is a terrible thing that many people living and working in cities have to contend with. It is an unfortunate result of concentrating jobs in one area and living in another area. From a typical person's salary, a lot goes to transport costs. Logically, cycling to work saves you money. In a short time, you are able to have enough money to take care of your bicycle repairs and replacements necessary due to wear and tear. If you are a man, and I am assuming you are, then with time, you develop the necessary muscle strength to make the daily commute a painless activity. As you take your bike daily instead of the taxi or the bus, you grow your savings and you move towards being a millionaire.

As you keep saving money, you realize that there are other things that can happen with your money to make it grow. You can invest it regularly in a high returns business. All this time, nothing else drastically changes in your life. You find ways to deal with bad weather, by getting a rain coat and cover for your bike. Sometimes, you take a bus, or a taxi when you have company and you enjoy the experience. You improve yourself, and get a bike that is lighter and easy to dismantle. Now, you can easily wrap it and get in inside a car when it starts raining.

Your bike and your car become one. When you are on a highway, you prefer the car, and when you are already in town and just need to rush on errands here and there, the bicycle comes in handy. Some of your employees seem not to understand you. How does he use a bike to go to lunch and to meetings across town? He should be using his car, shouldn't he? You know what they are thinking, but you ignore them anyway. They will never understand it. The essence of owning these things is to make life easy and pleasant.

Your bike allows you to skip the gym. It allows you to save money on cab bills and it allows you to keep time. Last time I checked, time is money. So, your bike is a source of wealth for you and it is making you a millionaire. It is giving you a millionaire mindset, and it is allowing you to be frugal with your lifestyle. It lets you enjoy luxury in moderation, and to keep on with the discipline of pedaling the rest of your life's activities. One more step, one more push and a little more sweat then comes the thrill for free flowing movement, the breeze on your face and the awesomeness of dedication.

You are going to love being on a bicycle after reading this, because suddenly, you see it as a ticket to a millionaire lifestyle, where you are keeping fit and enjoying the good things in life. A life where you are spending less than you earn and are making it to meetings in time.

When bicycles first came to Africa, they were referred to as the white man's iron horse. It will be interesting to see how you become an iron horse of financial stability because of your bike. It would also be helpful for your financial enrichment journey if you educate yourself on personal finance. Here is a book recommendation.
